MAGNA, UTAH (May 21, 2018) – Rear-end crash critically injures 10 year-old boy. Magna SR-201 closed.
According to the Utah highway patrol report, this crash took place around 7400 W and mile marker eight in Magna, Utah. The boy was in a vehicle with his father and two siblings when they were rear-ended by another vehicle. Reportedly, they were slowing down for a light before being struck. The 10-year old boy was critically injured by the crash and flown to Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah for treatment. The two other siblings were taken by ambulance.
The medics responding to the scene of the crash think the 10-year old boy is going to be OK.
UDOT (Utah Department of Transportation) declared SR-201 in Magna will reopen by 10:35 Monday morning.
Usually the driver causing the rear-end accident is at-fault and is responsible for the injuries caused to others. The 10 year-old boy may have a claim against the at-fault driver or the driver’s insurance to pay for his current and future medical expenses.
According to the 2016 Utah Crash Summary posted on highwaysafety.utah.gov a motor vehicle crash occurs once every 8 minutes in Utah and 30% of these are rear-end crashes. These senseless crashes have no place on our roads. When anyone is operating a motor vehicle they must pay attention and follow the basic safety rules that keep us all safe from harm, including maintaining all diligence and avoiding any distractions while driving.
