Hurricane, UT (March 11, 2018) —It was reported that an automobile crash involving a silver 2002 Volkswagon Beetle and a gold 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue resulted in injuries to three individuals who had to be transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center for emergency medical attention. According to authorities the driver of the Volkswagon attempted to make a left hand turn onto 1580 East in Hurricane when the two vehicles collided. Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the crash. Additionally, according to the report, there were no citations issued due to the preliminary investigation still in process. There can be many factors involved in a left-hand turn car accident. Typically, the person making the left-hand turn should wait until traffic is clear and they can safely proceed through the intersection without causing an immediate hazard by their presence crossing the opposite lanes of travel. Although the left-hand turner is typically found to be at fault, there are other circumstances that may place some blame on the vehicle driving straight (in this case, the driver of the Oldsmobile). Perhaps the light had turned red or maybe speed was a factor. The article stated that there was a passenger involved in the crash and either way the passenger will have a claim to make against either party that is deemed to be at fault since a passenger is typically not ever found to be at fault for a car accident. According to the 2016 Utah Crash Summary posted on highwaysafety.utah.gov, there were 34,596 crashes that took place because someone failed to yield (this includes failing to yield on a left-hand turn).
